Edwardian 14k Essex Crystal Horse Cufflinks

Reverse carved crystal was a technique created by cutting pieces of rock quartz crystal into a convex form and then polishing it into a cabochon shape. An image is carved into the flat side of the crystal and then hand painted. From the front, the image appears to be almost three dimensional. Many different images were used in reverse carved crystal jewelry and artwork, but animals were some of the most common motifs. A gorgeous pair of reverse carved crystal cufflinks from the Edwardian (ca1900) era! Crafted in 14k yellow gold, each double-faced cufflink features the hand-painted image of a regal horse. Each horse, though all depicted in a bridle, vary in hue, with the animals featuring white, chestnut brown, black, and copper coats. Each hand-painted portrait is protected by a rock crystal face, and encircled by a gold bezel-setting. The backside of each cufflink is smooth and simple, and the faces are connected by simple connector bars. A stunning set, this pair of cufflinks would make an exceptional gift for any equestrian or animal lover! Measurements: Each rock crystal cufflink face measure approximately 5/8" in diameter. The connector bars have a total length of 3/4". Condition: The overall condition of the cufflinks is excellent. There is no apparent damage to the gold setting, rock crystals, or to the painted images. The connector bars are intact and in working order.
