Karin Holmström - Traces in the Sand - Presence

Karin Holmstrom creates mainly colorful and abstract paintings in acrylic. In many of her works, animals and people recur as motifs. She says that her artistry is about exploring what it means to be human. “A work should evoke emotions,” says Karin. The motifs revolve around courage, trust and the inherent power of humans, and she is inspired by wild animals and a strong desire to preserve them – a driving force that grew after she visited the Kruger Park in South Africa as an exchange student. She describes her expression as “figuratively abstract.” “A work must not be too finished. It should continue with the viewer, like a book you read and create your own images for,” she says. Karin works in several layers of color where the colors are built up and interact to create an expression that touches and arouses strong emotions.
