BIO Years are passing by at the speed of a whiplash. The Duisburg/Mülheim/Düsseldorf/Cologne-based band KOKOMO has never taken so much time - conscious or accidentally - to release a new album. Does one want to think about what has happened in the last years? Probably not. The title WHIP itself represents movement, the propulsion in a world that is more and more losing its meaning. Here is where Kokomo start and open a musical reflection about the emptiness and the search for new meaning. Nietzsche described nihilism a state in which the even the highest values lose their meaning - a "Why? without an answer. Kokomo translate this idea. Not into words but sound. The songs range from outbursts to nearly gridlock and paint an acoustic picture of the tension that arises when certainty and orientation fade away. Each one of the six songs was written for itself over the last 7 years and has its own dramatic theory, but builds an overall picture together. Kokomo doesn't remain in the renowned sound patterns. The increased use of vocals shows the band from a more direct and more complex side than ever before. Whip is a musical counter draft: Where sense falls apart, there is room for a new perspective. The album is demanding, opens room for interpretation and has the finger on the pulse of a time in which questions of sense, identity, and orientation are more up to date than ever.
