Dorsett Button Class- May 23 10:00am-1:00pm
Dorset Buttons originated in Dorset in the 1600s and were made by wrapping thread around rings made of horn, bone, or metal. Button making became an important cottage industry, with families making buttons in their homes to earn extra income. By the 1700s and early 1800s, Dorset Buttons were widely used on clothing throughout England. The industry declined in the mid-1800s when machine-made buttons became popular, but the craft has survived and is still enjoyed today for embroidery, quilting, and textile art embellishments. Dorset Buttons can be made in many different sizes and are wonderful for embellishing clothing, home décor, holiday ornaments, or even used as functional buttons. Class includes all items needed to make a Dorset Button
