Canon Sure Shot Zoom XL 35mm film camera w/ manual + case (serial 1221261)

Released in 1989, the Canon Sure Shot Zoom XL is the product of an era when the company was experimenting with radical designs (see the following year's Photura). It's smooth in operation, it feels balanced in the hands, and it delivers excellent image quality. But all this capability comes at a cost: it's a large (see the photo of a ruler for scale) and heavy (610 grams with battery) point-and-shoot. Here's the description from the Canon Museum: "Fully automatic zoom compact camera using an SPC (silicon photocell) for a triangulation AF system. The near-infrared beam for autofocusing is also used for AF assist in low light. Prefocusing is possible. The 39-85mm f/3.6-7.3 lens has 9 elements in 8 groups and power zooming. The optical quality is comparable to Canon FD interchangeable lenses. A convenient, fixed-magnification mode is provided. The direct zoom viewfinder gives a clear image area. The built-in flash’s Guide No. is 11.8 to 14.4 (at ISO 100 in m). It zooms automatically to match the focal length. A high-end, high-performance compact camera full of features." Battery information The Sure Shot Zoom XL requires a 2CR5 battery (available as an option). Shooting Capacity: approx. 35 rolls of 24-exp. film with 50% flash use. (Data based on Canon's Standard Test Method) Condition notes All camera features were tested with a battery and film installed (the film was not developed) and it's working great. We also verified the camera's film plane focus sharpness using an autocollimator and its auto exposure using a calibrated light source. The camera is in good cosmetic condition (see photos). The original manual and a generic case is included. The remote control is still working but we cannot guarantee how much longer its internal battery will last (it uses a CR2020 lithium coin cell which can be replaced).
