Ozempic and GLP-1

Welcome to our comprehensive course on Ozempic and GLP-1 Medication Support. This training is designed for developmental services staff, including nurses, developmental service workers, personal support workers, and other direct support professionals who assist individuals using Ozempic and other GLP-1 receptor agonist medications. Through clear explanations and practical guidance, participants will develop an understanding of how GLP-1 medications work, why they are prescribed, and the important role support staff play in promoting safe medication practices and overall wellness. The course explores key topics related to medication support, injection safety, monitoring, side effect recognition, documentation, and person-centred care. Throughout the course, participants will learn safe medication handling and storage practices, injection and sharps safety, infection prevention measures, and the importance of accurate documentation and reporting. Additional topics include recognizing common side effects and warning signs requiring medical attention, supporting hydration and nutrition, promoting healthy routines, and respecting dignity, privacy, and independence when providing care and support. By the end of this course, participants will have the knowledge and confidence to safely support individuals who use Ozempic and other GLP-1 medications while promoting health, safety, well-being, and person-centred care practices within developmental services settings. Upon successful completion of the course, participants will receive a certificate confirming their understanding of Ozempic and GLP-1 medication support practices.
