Uganda - Nafuna
We return to The Coffee Gardens in Eastern Uganda to share a micro-lot that was produced by a community of farmers in and around Muduku village on Bukyabo Mountain. Sitting high in the Sironko District, the area is blessed with rich volcanic soils and cool mountain air, creating the perfect environment for growing expressive coffees. It’s our fourth year working with these producers; their focus on traceability, farmer training, and environmental stewardship means each lot not only tastes exceptional but also supports the long-term sustainability of the community. This year’s selection is named after Jackie Nafuna, who is the Coffee Gardens’ processing specialist. The care and attention of Jackie and her team has unlocked the coffee’s unique flavours. The coffee was prepared using a distinctive method - a variation of the washed process: Ripe cherries were co-fermented in their own pulp prior to sorting and drying. The process highlights an orangey acidity with good sweetness and clarity in the cup.
