The leather is tanned in Japan by soaking the raw horsehide in a pit tank, and taking advantage of the characteristics of horsehide with many scratches, only horsehide with many scratches is used for the full tanning process, which takes about 3 months in the pit tank. The leather is then turned on a taiko while being heated and shrunk to half its normal size (from 2m to 1m) to give it an impactful look with its scratches and graininess. The full tannin finish gives the leather a bony appearance, but by adding more oil, it has elasticity and suppleness, making it a comfortable leather to wear.
