Handmade by skilled artisan weavers in north west Afghanistan, this fine Kazak rug showcases traditional craftsmanship at its finest. Each piece is meticulously hand-knotted using exceptional Afghan wool, handspun in the Ghazni region, known for its distinctive texture and durability. The rug features a simple background, with classic border designs in vibrant colours—rich reds, deep blues, soft golds, and creams—characteristic of authentic Kazak carpets. The short pile emphasises pattern sharpness and detail, achieved through the higher knot density that defines fine-quality pieces. Woven in Afghanistan and finished in Pakistan through tensioning, surface clipping, herbal washing, and tumbling, this rug combines traditional weaving expertise with professional finishing techniques. The result is a durable, beautifully refined carpet built to last generations. Please click the hyperlinks below in gold for additional information. We stock various grades of Kazak carpets, and these pieces are set aside as finer-quality Afghan rugs and carpets. What does it mean? The skill of the supplier or finishing centres often determines how each carpet is graded. This means that more knots are used to produce a more detailed or refined rug. Of course, as you might expect, the finer the quality, the more expensive the rug will be, primarily because it has taken much longer to weave. Although Kazaks are hand-knotted in Afghanistan, the design originates from the Caucasus. The short pile emphasises the pattern's sharpness. Each piece is crafted from exceptional Afghan wool, typically spun in the Ghazni region. Afghan wool is generally slightly coarser and curlier than other wools, making it perfect for carpet weaving. Afghan Kazak carpets are traditionally made with bold geometric designs in intense, vibrant colours such as rich reds, warm terracottas, and shades of blues with soft golds and creams. The final carpet stage in Pakistan involves several processes; initial tensioning and alignment issues may be addressed, followed by surface clipping, herbal washing, and tumbling. This combination of Afghan weaving and finishing in Pakistan has succeeded. When buying online, it is worth considering the rug's provenance.
