Cool - Mixed Media Sculpture
Cool Menopause, an inevitable phase for many biological women, was a significant disruption for me in my professional life. It felt like a relentless train ride of uncontrollable emotions and heat. During those years, a moody discomfort accompanied me in public spaces, fuelling an obsession for solitude and coolness, even in winter’s chill. I yearned for the sanctuary of my rural home, daydreaming myself in the dam, nude and free— meditating, gardening, immersed in the changes of the day, embracing the ancient rites of the crone. My nude presence, both vulnerable and exposed, yet connected to the source, grants herself the opportunity to cool the internal fires and sooth the psychic energy field, on the journey of transformation through menopause. Animals subtly reside in my psyche: ducks symbolise domestic balance and tranquility, while a deer embodies ancient pagan rites of passage, residue from my time in ritual practises. Soothing, warm wood, glimpsed under the surface, encourages a return to connect to my natural state of being. Marking the rites of passage, inspires me to connect to the earths cycles and be supported by the power of water, earth, wind and fire. It allows me to embrace the new world forming inside me, find balance, and replenish my energy. Through this sculpture, I celebrate menopause as a significant rite of passage toward a new wisdom and strength. An embracing of the fire of transformation while immersing in the coolness of renewal and a building of a new cycle of personal power, through a knowing of the self.
