When Didier Dagueneau decided to make wine outside of the Loire, he didn't pick Burgundy or Bordeaux—he headed straight for the dramatic, steep foothills of the Pyrenees in Jurançon. He bought a tiny, amphitheatre-shaped plot of terraced vines, named it after the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, and set out to resurrect the reputation of the local Petit Manseng grape. The Moelleux pours a luminous, brilliant gold and immediately floods the room with a decadent, mind-bending bouquet: think ripe mangos, fresh pineapple, caramelised tangerine peel, wild honey, and a hint of warm baking spice. While it is thick, luxurious, and unapologetically sweet, it never sits heavy with a vivid acidity slicing through the richness, leaving the wine feeling incredibly bright, clean, and completely weightless. It finishes with an epic, salty, mineral-driven persistence.
