No prior experience in zine-making required — just bring your curiosity, your camera, and your laptop. About Yuji Haikal is a self-taught photographer from Johor whose journey began in 2007. After a long hiatus, a question from his late father—“Why aren’t you taking photos anymore?”—reignited his passion and led him back to photography with fresh purpose. Working mainly in black and white, Yuji draws inspiration from Jim Marshall, capturing raw, timeless moments with strong storytelling. His handmade photobook Why Aren’t You Taking Photos Anymore? won Book Photographer of the Year and First Place in Self-Published Book at the 2024 International Photography Awards, and has been showcased internationally. Beyond photobooks, Yuji has documented Malaysia’s music scene since 2007, covering bands, concerts, and festivals, and recently collaborated with Leica Store Malaysia and Zainal Abidin. As Vice President of PPPC, he also leads workshops and photowalks, sharing his knowledge with the community.
