Syncopation - Antique Log Cabin Quilt
An off-beat graphic quilt c. 1890 displaying alternating equilateral triangles in black wool and wool challis with 5-inch sides. Finished with a pillowcase edging and a rare pansy print backing from an 1885 textile. The Log Cabin quilt holds important historic significance; in the time of the Underground Railroad, these quilts hung on a windowsill were used to signify a safe place where an enslaved person on the run could seek shelter.
