Lufthansa Airbus A380 - D-AIMI Glare
Lufthansa A380 D-AIMI “Berlin” – GLARE Edition This variant introduces a new material chapter to the Lufthansa A380 D-AIMI “Berlin” edition: GLARE. GLARE (Glass Laminate Aluminium Reinforced Epoxy) is a fiber-metal laminate composed of alternating layers of aluminum and glass fiber reinforced epoxy. Originally developed in cooperation with TU Delft, the material was designed to reduce weight while improving fatigue and corrosion resistance. The Airbus A380 was the first commercial aircraft to use GLARE extensively in its upper fuselage – marking a significant step in civil aviation engineering. D-AIMI (MSN 072) first flew in November 2011 and was withdrawn from service during the COVID period, with its final ferry flight recorded on 22 February 2021. This GLARE edition is crafted from that same advanced fuselage material – visible in the subtle layered structure along the cut edges. Unlike standard aluminum, GLARE reveals a distinct, slightly textured surface. The layered composition reflects the engineering philosophy behind the A380: strength through innovation. This officially licensed Aviationtag x Lufthansa edition combines documented aircraft history with one of the most advanced structural materials ever used in large-scale commercial aviation. Please note that due to the strength of some Glare Aviationtags, the cover might not fit.
