The Vintage Evening Coat Course

With its trapeze shape, the Vintage Evening Coat is a beautifully flattering garment that is comfortable to wear and goes together easily. The design details, such as front neckline darts, long shoulder darts, a pleat at the center back, and a beautiful welt pocket treatment add sophistication and subtle interest. The band collar sits cleanly and elegantly just below the neckline and the center front closes with snaps or buttonholes. The sleeves can be cut on the bias or the straight of grain and the coat is fully lined. I first came upon the coat when a friend was cleaning out her vintage garments. I tried it on, loved it, and knew that not only would it be wonderful to have, it would make a beautiful pattern. So that's what we've done, thanks to the brilliant patternmaking by Julien Cristofoli in Paris.
