Working in the heady milieu of 1930s New York, Marguerita Mergentime (1894–1941) became best known for strikingly new printed fabrics, making her mark with tablecloths created to enliven American households with color, humor and entertainment. The Food for Thought tablecloth is adorned with political slogans and was designed by Mergentime in 1936. Mergentime was known for her ability to spark conversation and bring politics and folk art to the American table. The Food for Thought Tablecloth is in Cooper Hewitt's permanent collection.
