Antique African Lidded Container Carved Stylized Human Face Hardwood

A substantial African hand-carved hardwood lidded container skillfully fashioned from two hollowed sections fitted together to form a covered vessel. The domed lid is decorated with a boldly rendered stylized human face featuring geometric eyes, a triangular nose, and pronounced lips, complemented by relief-carved geometric motifs encircling the upper surface. Carved entirely by hand from dense hardwood, the container exhibits visible adze and carving marks, along with a rich, dark patina acquired through decades of handling and use. Surface wear, age shrinkage, and natural cracking are consistent with its age and traditional construction, contributing to its authenticity and character.
