Lessons from 1,862 Days in the Wild
An epic journey across Canada - and into self. When acclaimed filmmaker Dianne Whelan set out to film 500 Days in the Wild, she planned to complete the world’s longest trail — the Trans Canada Trail — in just 500 days. The journey had other ideas. What followed was 1,862 days across 24,000 kilometres — a test of endurance shaped by injury, extreme conditions, isolation and uncertainty. But the greatest challenge wasn’t the landscape. It was internal. In this deeply personal companion to the film, Whelan reflects on what the journey revealed: patience, resilience, trust and the power of listening to the land, to the community, and to herself. This is a story about letting go of timelines, rethinking success, and discovering that the path you resist may be the one that changes you most.
