HALF NUT BRIGHT STEEL

A bright steel half nut (also known as a jam nut or lock nut) is a low-profile hexagonal fastener. Roughly half the height of a standard nut, it is primarily tightened against a standard nut to lock it in place and prevent loosening, or used in tight spaces where a standard nut won't fit. The normal (standard) thread direction for nuts is right-handed. This means the nut tightens by turning it clockwise (to the right) and loosens by turning it counterclockwise (to the left), widely remembered by the rule "righty tighty, lefty loosey". Visual Identification: Right-Hand Threads (Standard): If you look at the internal threads of a nut or the external threads of a bolt, they will slope upward and to the right. Left-Hand Threads (Reverse): If the threads slope upward and to the left, it is a left-hand thread. These are only used in specialty applications (like bicycle pedals or rotating machinery) to prevent the part from loosening during operation.
