written by Mike Sakal. This price on this two-volume set includes shipping. Old North Dayton once was an ethnic melting pot of Eastern European immigrants at the beginning of the 20th century. Hundreds of Hungarian immigrants lived in the controversial walled-in Kossuth Colony and worked at nearby The Barney & Smith Railway Car Works Company. Mike Sakal recently released his books Dayton Hungarians: Their Stories, Glories and Folklore. The books are a two-volume set about the history of the Hungarian community in Dayton, Ohio spanning from the late 1890s to the present day. A good portion of the book covers Old North Dayton beginning with the Hungarian Kossuth Colony just blocks from the library. Volume 1 is 548 pages; Volume 2 is 300 pages. Each volume features dozens of stories from the families who lived in Dayton’s Hungarian neighborhoods and hundreds of vintage photographs relating to Dayton’s Hungarian history.
