Our June wine selection showcases three of the UK's favourite summer styles - Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Noir - with a distinctly German twist. Featuring Germany's answer to Sauvignon Blanc, Scheurebe, alongside Grauburgunder which is similar to Pinot Grigio and Spätburgunder which shares characteristics of Pinot Noir, this six-bottle case includes two bottles of each wine from three of Germany's most respected producers. All three estates are members of the VDP (Verband Deutscher Prädikatsweingüter), Germany's prestigious association of top winegrowers and a recognised mark of exceptional quality. From Wirsching's exotically expressive Scheurebe to Bercher's fruitily sophisticated Grauburgunder and Kranz's elegantly refined Spätburgunder, this collection offers a delicious introduction to the quality, character and diversity of modern German wine. Grown on vines over 40 years old, this Premier Cru wine displays an intense aromatic profile reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc, yet with even greater fruit expression. Exotic notes of mango, passion fruit, grapefruit and lemon balm leap from the glass, balanced by a dry, harmonious palate and impressive concentration. Scheurebe is a cross between Riesling and Silvaner, and Wirsching are regarded as true pioneers of the variety in Franconia. In 1952, Hans Wirsching planted the region's very first Scheurebe vines in the Kronsberg vineyard, laying the foundations for decades of expertise. Presented in the traditional Franconian Boxbeutel bottle, the wine is produced sustainably under the estate's Fair'N Green certification. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Bercher 2020 Burkheimer Schlossgarten Villinger Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) Grand Cru dry Region: Baden 2 x White Wines An immensely velvety and sophisticated Grauburgunder (Pinot Gris) from a Grand Cru vineyard. Rich yet beautifully balanced, it combines elegant fruit notes of pineapple and pear with a finely judged acidity that brings freshness and poise. Awarded 17/20 by acclaimed wine writer Tamlyn Currin of Jancis Robinson, this wine comes from a remarkable loess terroir formed over millennia as wind-blown topsoil accumulated in ancient volcanic craters. Bercher vinifies the wine primarily in stainless steel, with a small proportion matured in older oak to enhance texture without masking the fruit. Aromas of spring flowers, honeysuckle and ripe orchard fruit lead into a palate bursting with sweet-fruited energy, subtle nuttiness and remarkable vitality. A truly captivating and memorable Grauburgunder. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Kranz 2021 Kalmit Spätburgunder Grand Cru dry Region: Pfalz 2 x Red Wines A fine and highly elegant Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) sourced from the prestigious Ilbesheimer Kalmit Grand Cru vineyard. Named after the nearby "Kleine Kalmit" or "Little Hill", this exceptional site rises to 270 metres and is renowned for producing wines of precision and character. The wine combines red cherry and currant fruit with a distinctive salty mineral tension that reflects its unique terroir. Cool, juicy and beautifully refined, it offers subtle spice, finely integrated tannins and impressive length. The result is a classic German Pinot Noir of clarity, elegance and sophistication, showcasing both the pedigree of the vineyard and the skill of the Kranz family. • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Please note: There is an additional delivery charge for Scotland & Wales.
