A very early pair of hand coloured etchings with aquatint by Thomas Rowlandson, these prints are housed in traditional gilt frames and mounted on acid free paper. The condition is excellent. Rowlandson's well known series of cartoons depicts the doctor in various situations, here we have Dr Syntax Preaching and Dr Syntax and Dairy Maid. Both these prints are contained in Rowlandson's "First Tour of Dr Syntax" first published in 1812. The popularity today of Rowlandson's 19th caractatures is testimony that good humour and wit is timeless. A great pair of antique prints with which to start a collection or add to an existing one. c.1813 Overall width: 13" (33cm) Overall height: 10.25 (26.5cm) Image measurements: 8" (20cm) x 5" (12.5cm) Depth: 1.25" (3cm) Ref: RM42
