Blackcurrant Sage Plants
Blackcurrant Sage is one of our favourite varieties in the herb garden. This is a herb plant that smells like Blackcurrant - seriously. The foliage is elegant, fragrant, and attractive (we actually used it in the flowers at our wedding). The red flowers that this herb produces are simply stunning and the flavour provides you with so many foodie options. This variety will enjoy growing in a sunny, free-draining position and can grow to a considerable size of over one metre, although we harvest ours so frequently it never quite reaches that size! Blackcurrant Sage is described as being 'half-hardy' although we overwinter our plant outside here in the UK in a sheltered spot, and it survives all but extreme winter conditions. The flavour of these Blackcurrant Sage plants is extraordinary and provides so many exciting foodie options. It's one of the herb plants that we always recommend as being good in a cocktail but is also a perfect botanical ingredient to infuse into gin. Adding hot water to the leaves of Blackcurrant Sage produces a delicious warm, soothing and delicious blackcurrant-flavoured herbal tea.
