The Blubber Cove Coral-Style Aquarium Shelter is a sculpted multi-hole hide that sits proudly on top of your substrate as a tank centrepiece. Inspired by Texas holey rock and natural coral formations, the multi-chamber body creates a network of hides, tunnels and grazing surfaces — shrimp colonise the textured exterior, bottom-dwellers claim individual chambers, and cichlid keepers get an affordable alternative to expensive natural holey rock. UK 3D-printed in aquarium-safe PETG. Why a multi-hole shelter? Most aquarium caves give one fish one hiding spot. This one gives a whole community their own territory. The multiple holes and internal chambers mean shrimp, corydoras, plecos and shy fish can all use it at the same time without competing — and the open sculptural shape lets water flow through, so detritus doesn't build up inside like it does with closed caves. Why Choose Blubber Cove Perfect for bottom dwellers — ideal for shrimp, plecos, corydoras, guppies, and more 3 main hideout chambers — 2.5 cm openings encourage natural sheltering behaviour Premium aquarium-safe PETG — long-lasting, no leaching, no painted surfaces Compact centrepiece size — approximately 13 × 13 × 13 cm, fits most tank layouts from 40L up Exclusive Blubber Cove design — sculptural look you won't find in mass-produced decor Affordable alternative to Texas holey rock — same visual effect, fraction of the weight and cost Features Multi-hole "coral-style" design — multiple chambers for community use Sits on top of substrate — no burying needed, instant centrepiece Open structure — water flows through, no detritus traps Smooth interior chambers — safe for delicate fins and shrimp moults 12 colour options — from natural white through to bold pinks, purples and oranges 3D-printed in Northumberland, UK from aquarium-safe PETG Ideal for cichlid setups, shrimp colonies and aquascape centrepieces Specifications Material: Aquarium-safe PETG plastic Dimensions: Approximately 13 × 13 × 13 cm Hole openings: 2.5 cm diameter (3 main entrances plus additional grazing holes) Placement: On top of substrate — freestanding centrepiece Tank size: 40 litres and up Colours: Black, White, Beige, Marble, Green, Blue, Brown, Grey, Orange, Pink, Purple, Red, Yellow Made in: Northumberland, United Kingdom Brand: Blubber Cove Suitable species Neocaridina and Caridina shrimp (the multi-hole body is a colony favourite) Corydoras (panda, bronze, pygmaeus, sterbai) Bristlenose plecos and small catfish African cichlids — perfect for Malawi / Mbuna setups as a holey rock alternative Apistogramma, kribensis and dwarf cichlids Guppies, mollies and small community fish Kuhli loaches and weather loaches Perfect for these setups Lake Malawi / African cichlid tanks (holey rock replacement) Shrimp colony tanks (multi-chamber grazing) Planted nano aquascapes (sculptural centrepiece) Community freshwater tanks (shared shelter for shy species) Aquascape competition tanks (unique focal point) How is this different from your aquarium caves? This is a freestanding sculptural shelter, not a corner cave or buried tunnel. The multi-hole "coral" shape works as a tank centrepiece on top of substrate — and the multiple openings mean a whole community of fish and shrimp can use it at once, rather than one fish claiming a single chamber. Frequently asked questions Is it really safe for shrimp? Yes. PETG is shrimp-safe (no copper, no leaching) and the smooth interior won't catch moults. The multi-chamber design is one of the best shapes for shrimp colonies — every shrimp can find its own grazing surface. Can I use it instead of real Texas holey rock? Yes — that's one of the main design intents. Real holey rock is heavy, expensive, and often hard to source. This gives the same visual effect for Lake Malawi setups at a fraction of the weight and cost. Will fish actually use the holes? Almost always within 24-48 hours. The 2.5 cm openings are sized for typical community fish — corydoras, small plecos and shrimp all fit through comfortably. Bigger species like adult plecos use the larger chambers. Does it need to be buried? No — it's designed to sit visibly on top of substrate as a centrepiece. The open structure means it doesn't need to be hidden to look natural. Will my African cichlids spawn in it? The chambers are well-suited for cave-spawning species like apistogramma and kribensis. For larger African cichlids, this works better as territorial cover than a dedicated breeding cave. Does it work in saltwater tanks? Designed for freshwater. PETG is inert but we don't currently certify saltwater use — for reef tanks, source dedicated marine-safe decor. How do I clean it? The open structure means most debris flushes through naturally during water changes. For algae build-up, use a soft aquarium brush or turkey baster between the holes. Never use soap or detergent.
