About the Piece: Here's vintage Navajo squash blossom necklace and earring set from the early 1970s. It's more restrained than many you find that are quite ornate. This one is set with vibrant turquoise cabochons in oval shapes. Extending from each stone is an elongated sterling silver blossom. The naja centerpiece is accented with silver wire work and six more turquoise stones. A matching pair of dangle earrings in the same design complete this pretty and wearable set. Best of all, this squash blossom necklace has a special story. A young woman from the Northeast moved to Tucson in the early 1970s, met a man, fell in love and planned her wedding in the magical Southwest. In 1974, her mom traveled to Tucson for the wedding. Like any mother of the bride, she wanted to feel beautiful, and because she was at a location wedding, she wanted to dress with some Southwestern flair. Before the wedding, she went shopping in Tucson to find the perfect turquoise squash blossom necklace. What could be better for this occasion! This Navajo squash necklace and earring set is what she chose. I like to think that in the moment right before the wedding, she put this jewelry on, caught her reflection in the mirror, and felt just right - a beautiful mom honoring her daughter, the bride, by incorporating jewelry that symbolized this land in which her daughter's new married life would take shape. At 26" long, the necklace is substantial length and weight without being overly so. The naja is 3 1/4" x 2 1/2". Each blossom is about 1 5/8". The earrings are lightweight and easy to wear. They dangle 1 1/2" long x 1/2" wide. The necklace is stamped "Annie" and a last name on the reverse that isn't easy to read.
