BC Queens, from Okanagan Honey - Pre Order
These marked queens are sourced from the Okanagan Honey Company in Armstrong. BC queens are a great option for those beekeepers looking for something produced closer to home and better adapted to the BC season. Okanagan Honey Co provides the following additional details regarding their breeding program: "Queens raised by Doug Gordon with North Okanagan Honey are produced from his own Okanagan survivor stock. The bees have a lineage that have been bred in the North Okanagan for over 40 years, originating from the Honey Bee Stock Improvement Project funded by the Ministry of Agriculture. Primarily a Carniolan/Italian cross, these queens have since been bred for decades in the Armstrong area, where care is taken to produce stock that is able to build up quickly in the spring, tolerate the heat and drought of the intense summers, and shut down tightly for a changeable fall and winter. Breeder queens must be able to make it through winter and deep into spring without any supplemental feeding. A mild disposition but with a slight defensive potential to help against late season robbing of pesky yellow jacket wasps." -- Marked?
