The inspiration came from a simple conversation with a customer and a borrowed original — Jim studied an authentic barn gun from a friend's collection and drew directly from it, ensuring this kit is faithful to history in both spirit and detail. The Appalachian Barn Gun's straightforward design makes it one of the easiest kit builds Kibler offers — which also makes it a perfect project to tackle with a child or grandchild. Kibler's Appalachian Barn Gun Kit features a 38-inch swamped barrel in a rifle that is notably light and beautifully balanced — comfortable in the hands of men, women, and younger shooters alike. For builders who also want to hunt, Jim recommends the .45 caliber: it is large enough to ethically take whitetail deer while still producing a beautifully balanced, easy-handling rifle. Stocks are available in walnut, cherry, or maple, with both right and left-hand configurations and a choice of flintlock or percussion ignition. We'd also encourage you to include the grease hole — it's used for storing a small amount of grease as a patch lubricant, it's traditional on this style of gun, and it simply looks right at home.
