The SCSA Taipan EVO in Burnt Bronze Cerakote is the refined, lightweight “next generation” evolution of Australia’s Southern Cross Small Arms dual-action centerfire platform. It succeeds the older Taipan Light and Taipan X models, specifically incorporating competitive IPSC shooter feedback to slash weight and drop reloading split times. The EVO Ergonomic Lower: The major change for the EVO is a glass-filled nylon polymer thumbhole grip lower assembly that completely houses an integrated extra magazine carrier inside the rear buttstock. Your secondary 10-round magazine clips directly under the cheekpiece so it is always within reach. Competition Bolt Catch: Driven by dynamic feedback, the EVO introduces a dedicated, fast-acting bolt catch system. The action locks wide open on an empty mag; you simply slap the newly positioned lever to instantaneously strip and chamber a fresh round. Flared Magwell & Deflector: Features a wide, funnel-style integrated flared magwell to eliminate fumbling during high-stress target transitions. It also retains the heavy-duty polymer shell-case deflector to protect the premium Dark Grey Cerakote finish from flying brass. Mounting Infrastructure: The top edge features a rigid, continuous full-length Picatinny rail, matched to an M-LOK skeletonized aluminum handguard. Additionally, the bottom profile is Swiss plate/Arca-Swiss compatible for seamless tripod and bench bag clamping. Feature Specification Calibre .223 Remington (1:8″ Twist Rate) Total Weight (Unloaded) 3.29 kg (Includes 2x empty magazines) Weight Reduction ~300 g lighter than the previous Taipan X Overall Length 885 mm (With factory length-of-pull spacers) Barrel Spec 16.5″ 416R Stainless Steel (Light Contour) Muzzle Thread 1/2″x28 UNEF (Standard .223 threading) Magazine Capacity 10 Rounds (Ships with 2x PMAG-style drop magazines) Trigger Pull Weight 5.5 lbs (Factory setting)
