This cross pairs two closely related Andean species from the Coccineae subsection. Masd. coccinea, "the little flag," is native to Colombia's Eastern Cordillera (2,440–3,600 m). Masd. amabilis, "the lovely masdevallia," is native to northern/central Peru (2,000–5,300 m) and is naturally variable in colour. It is an unregistered cross, not a named grex. What to expect Flowers: An unusual, two-lobed form typical of coccinea-type dorsal reduction — the dorsal sepal is drawn into a single long, fine tail rising straight above the flower, while the two lateral sepals fuse into broad, wing-like lobes. Colour is a rich magenta-purple with darker veining, softening to a pale lilac-white centre, with a small maroon column visible at the throat. Habit: One flower per stem. Growing notes Temperature: Cool to cold growing — both parents come from high-altitude Andean cloud forest (2,000 m+). Light: Bright filtered shade, no direct midday sun. Water: Keep evenly moist at all times — no pseudobulbs, do not allow to dry out. Humidity & air: High humidity with constant gentle air movement. Rainwater or RO water preferred. Shipping & condition Supplied as an established division. Buds and flowers cannot be guaranteed at time of shipping due to seasonal and environmental factors.
