The plate is designed specifically for this polisher, and creates the forced rotation that sets the FLEX apart from other dual action buffers. This Backing Plate is made of durable molded plastic with a urethane pad to dampen vibration and heat. Hook and loop fasteners cover the bottom of the plate from edge to edge. This dual action polisher is recommended to work with 6" or 6.5" polishing pads. Each pad has a different purpose. They range from a heavy cutting pad, to a ceramic coating pad. Pads are helpful not only for paint correction, but a lighter pad is great to apply carnauba wax, and paint sealants.
