Help Complete the Final Step for Qol-Ujeed Village Qol-Ujeed is a rural village in the Awdal region of Somaliland, home to nearly 4,000 people. Like many drought-affected communities in the Horn of Africa, its residents have long faced the hardship of unreliable, distant water sources. In 2024, ARAHA set out to change that — with a deep solar-powered borehole designed to serve the entire village for generations to come. It hasn’t been easy. The first borehole failed. The second attempt required a new survey, a new location, and renewed resolve. But it worked. At 150 meters deep, the borehole now produces over 15,000 liters of clean water every hour enough to sustain the entire community, livestock, and daily life. The water is there. It just needs to reach the people. The Final Step: Connecting the Water to the Village Because the successful borehole was drilled 350 meters away from the original location, it now sits farther from the elevated tank that distributes water to the village.
