Chicago Sewer Cover Dangle Earrings
If you’ve spent any time walking around Chicago, you’ve probably stepped over these hundreds of times without giving them much thought. Turns out, they also make pretty great earrings. I designed these as a response to having my vendor booth at a street festival placed in a spot that had one of these right in the center of my booth, in all of its rotted glory, and thought to myself, "well I guess I should just lean into this now". And from that unfortunate booth placement, a new jewelry design was born that day. So where are my trash humans at?! Inspired by the iconic Chicago sewer covers found throughout the city, these oversized dangle earrings recreate the familiar circular geometric design right down to the CHICAGO SEWER lettering. They’re a weird little love letter to Chicago and the everyday details that make the city what it is. These Chicago manhole cover earrings are an especially fun alternative to the usual skyline and flag souvenirs. They make a great Chicago gift for a local, an expat who still considers Chicago home, or anyone who appreciates urban design, architecture and jewelry that's a little unexpected. Despite their oversized statement look, they’re lightweight and comfortable to wear, so you can carry a little piece of Chicago around without literally hanging municipal infrastructure from your ears. Measures approximately 2"x 2" with matching bronze toned jump rings and french hook earring wires. Laser cut and engraved from metallic bronze colored acrylic. Enjoy the design but want them to say a different city name to be able to rep your city? Yes, customized ones are do-able for shorter city names, but email me if your city is longer than 7-8 characters, as I may be able to accommodate longer by modifying the design a bit. This is a handmade, made to order item, please allow up to 5-7 business days for me to make and ship your item to you!
