Flea Market Item - Friand Tin Fancies 6

A charming collection of vintage French sewing notions in an old friand tin that we think would make a perfect pincushion! Nestled inside are gorgeous little pieces of French mercerie history that we have found during our adventures in the French markets. Inside are two original reels of fine, lustrous thread in palest blush pink and primrose cream, a generous skein of ivory embroidery thread still retaining part of its original paper label, and a wonderfully patinated brass-coloured dressmaker’s thimble. The old paper-ended reels, subtle colours and silky sheen of the threads give this group a particularly pretty, understated quality. The reels appear to be French, while the skein may be English—the surviving label appears to include “…fords” and “England”. We would date the collection broadly to the first half to mid-20th century, approximately 1930s. A lovely little collection for slow stitching, textile collage or simply for displaying with other vintage haberdashery.
