Dr Suzanne Zeedyk In-person Training Day Love, laughter and neuroscience: Why relationships matter in the development of speech and language Limited tickets available – book yours now! Wednesday 7 October, 10am–4pm Speech, language and communication in our youngest children has never been more in focus, with a recent report estimating that 25% of Scottish children have a predicted speech, language and communication need (at the age of 4 years), rising to 40% in some areas of social deprivation. Join Dr Suzanne Zeedyk, well known research scientist, founder of Connected Baby and passionate campaigner for boosting children’s resilience through emotional connection, for an interactive workshop session, exploring the role of attachment in speech and language development. Why are secure relationships so significant in providing a foundation for young children's confidence to communicate, explore and learn? That’s the question we’ll address throughout the day. This workshop will help you to understand why everyday, small interactions with babies build language skills and to discover how listening, turn-taking, eye contact and responsive conversations support speech and language outcomes for babies and young children. Learning outcomes A greater understanding of the neuroscience of relationships and language development. Increased confidence in supporting babies’ and young children's communication through meaningful interactions. Practical strategies to help parents promote speech, language and communication in everyday routines. An appreciation of the powerful role that love, laughter and connection play in helping young children become successful communicators.
