Imoto Fuyu is an early-ripening Japanese non-astringent persimmon prized for its sweet, crisp fruit and reliable performance. The medium to large, flattened orange fruit can be enjoyed while still firm like an apple or allowed to soften slightly for an even richer, honeyed flavour. Unlike astringent persimmons, the fruit can be eaten before it is fully soft, making it an excellent choice for fresh eating. This attractive tree produces vibrant orange fruit in autumn, often remaining on the branches after the leaves have fallen for a spectacular display. With its relatively early ripening season, Imoto Fuyu is well suited to cooler climates where later persimmon varieties may not fully mature. Common names: Imoto Fuyu Persimmon, Japanese Persimmon Edible: Fruit Harvest timing: October-November Scientific name: Diospyros kaki 'Imoto Fuyu' Light requirements: Full sun Full-grown size: 12-18' tall x 10-15' wide Hardiness: Zone 7 Pollination: Capable of setting fruit without pollination (parthenocarpic), which means you only need one tree to get fruit. Wildlife: Not deer resistant. Fruit attract wildlife. Origin: A Japanese selection, believed to have arisen as a bud sport or seedling closely related to the original Fuyu. Noteworthy: One of the earliest ripening non-astringent Asian persimmon varieties.
