Willow Basket With Straps | Susan Early

These incredible woven willow baskets are created by Susan Early in Gloucestershire. The perfect size for popping to the shops or a day at the beach, it has long leather shoulder straps held fast with brass rivets. Each basket is individual with striped variations in thickness of willow throughout. This is a sturdy basket that sits upright on it's flat bottom. The process of preparing willow is lengthy and involved; first willow is sorted by size, then soaked for a number of days before being mellowed overnight. It is then ready for Susan to weave into these beautiful forms. We are so lucky to be bringing you these hand woven wearable baskets. Susan has been weaving willow for more than twenty years; her foundation came from early study of the craft and time spent with master basket makers in France. She works in sculpture, baskets and other wearable forms that sit reassuringly in their surrounds. Her Willow is sourced from the Somerset Levels, along with a small amount Susan grows herself in Gloucestershire.
