2024 Jean Foillard, Morgon, Cote du Py
Jean Foillard and his wife, Agnès, manage their 14-hectare domaine in the village of Villié-Morgon, where they have championed traditional, low-intervention farming since 1980. This wine is made from Gamay grown on the steep, south-facing slopes of the Côte du Py, a site defined by ancient granite and schist soils and vines reaching up to 90 years of age. In the glass, it shows a deep ruby color with precise notes of black cherry, wild berries, and a distinct mineral-laden backbone supported by silky, fine-grained tannins. The 2024 vintage provided an exceptionally favorable growing season, resulting in a balanced, lively wine with a clean and focused structure. It is currently expressive and approachable, though its density ensures it will also evolve beautifully in the cellar over the next decade.
