Lot 801 is a typical straight-leg jean. It's a bit rustic, but that's the essence of what jeans should be. The denim uses Upland American cotton for both warp and weft. We simply thought, "For basic jeans, it has to be denim woven from yarn made solely from American cotton!" But when we started, we couldn't find a standard 100% American cotton yarn! So we decided to make the yarn ourselves! (Though it produces an enormous quantity.) Upland cotton is a very basic type of cotton. We import it to Japan, scan the slub yarn shapes seen in vintage jeans, and determine the yarn's shape. We control it to have a slub that isn't too strong. The completed yarn undergoes rope dyeing. Pure indigo dyeing, without any pre-dyeing or post-dyeing. The color's characteristic this time is a relatively strong blue with little redness. Furthermore, the fabric is woven on a selvedge power loom. By weaving at low tension, it creates a fluffy texture, preserving the natural character of the yarn and cotton. The finished fabric is raw denim (kibata), meaning it hasn't undergone sanforization or singeing to remove fuzz. Its characteristic is that it shrinks and twists when washed. However, before shipping, we one-wash and tumble dry it to shrink it as much as possible. There are two patterns: the straight Lot 801 and the slim tapered Lot 802. The hem width is the same for about 10 centimeters from the hem, so the hem width doesn't change even if you shorten it up to about a 30-inch inseam. All stitching is done with cotton thread. We use thick threads for the side seams, the "komata" (crotch seam where the left and right body pieces meet), the yoke, and the waistband attachment. This specification is to provide strength with cotton thread, and it also results in the bumpy selvedge fading and strong puckering on the yoke. What we kept in mind when creating the fabric and jeans from scratch this time was to be "basic." To achieve a classic feel for the cotton, there are methods like blending non-American cotton from Peru or India. Even for indigo dyeing, there are ways to create a different feel than pure indigo with pre-dyeing, but we chose not to do any of that and stuck to American cotton and pure indigo. As a result, the finished color is a strong blue, just as I envisioned. We have introduced the process from raw cotton collection to spinning, rope dyeing, weaving, and sewing below. http://www.e-workers.net/store/old/201601/p1.html http://www.e-workers.net/store/old/201601/p2.html http://www.e-workers.net/store/old/201601/p3.html http://www.e-workers.net/store/old/201601/p4.html http://www.e-workers.net/store/old/201601/p5.html http://www.e-workers.net/store/old/201601/p6.html End of excerpt from official manufacturer's page Lot 801 is what WORKERS considers "basic jeans." With a straight silhouette that is not influenced by trends, it has a slightly rustic charm, which is the original appeal of jeans. The fabric used is an original 13.75oz selvedge denim made from 100% American Upland cotton. It is WORKERS' masterpiece denim, created from scratch, from raw cotton to spinning, rope dyeing, and weaving, in pursuit of standard 100% American cotton yarn, which is surprisingly rare today. The dyeing is pure indigo dyeing without pre-dyeing. The clear, strong blue hue is reminiscent of vintage denim yet possesses WORKERS' unique character. The weaving is low-tension weaving on a power loom with a selvedge. It is characterized by the natural unevenness and rich texture unique to raw denim (kibata) that has not undergone sanforization or singeing. Cotton thread is used for sewing. Thick cotton threads are used for various parts such as the outseams, crotch seam ("komata"), yoke, and waistband attachment, and the puckering and three-dimensional fading that emerge with wear are also a major attraction. Don't do anything special. That's why you can wear them for a long time. This is a pair filled with what WORKERS considers "the origin of jeans."
