Vintage Italian Modern Red Simone Sofa by Simon International, Italy, Circa 1972

This rare Italian modern three-seat red “Simone” sofa attributed to Dino Gavina and Maria Simoncini was made in Italy circa 1972 by Simon International. The Simone is distinguished by its sculptural form, refined proportions, and sophisticated upholstery construction, characteristics that define Simon International’s early furniture designs. The Simone sofa was originally produced in multiple sizes and upholstery options. Measuring 92 inches wide, this example is the larger and less commonly available three-seat version. The sofa retains its original scarlet red Alcantara upholstery, a soft, luxurious suede-textured material that fully envelops the concealed wood frame, giving the design a clean, sculptural profile. The cushions are uniquely constructed, with each combining the seat and backrest into a single continuous upholstered form. All three cushions are joined by original leather ties and are zippered and removable for easy cleaning. Elegant rounded edges and distinctive stitched detailing further showcase the high level of craftsmanship and refinement. With its vibrant scarlet red upholstery and sculptural form, this sofa makes a striking statement and perfect vintage accent to complement a wide range of interior styles. CONDITION Excellent vintage condition with minor wear consistent with age and use. Upholstery is vibrant, soft, and presents well with a few scattered wear spots, including along the lower front below the seat cushions with a surface blemish to the back edge of the backrest as shown. Original leather cushion ties remain intact. The reverse of the cushions and underside of the sofa retain the original woven Simon-branded upholstery fabric.
