Second Skin Barrier Cream

Did you know that babies are born with an underdeveloped skin barrier that does not fully mature until they are around 3–4 years old? Our skin barrier is made up of hardened skin cells (corneocytes) and lipids. The skin cells act like “bricks,” while the lipids are the “cement” that seals up the gaps between the skin cells. A baby's skin does not produce enough “cement”, and this causes gaps in between their skin cells. Through these gaps, germs and bacteria can easily enter their skin, causing inflammation and flare ups. This is why babies are so prone to acne, eczema and other skin issues.
