Black Dial Royalty - The Rolex Day-Date in Yellow Gold The Rolex Day-Date Ref. 1803 is one of the defining luxury watches of the 20th century, but this 1966 example stands apart thanks to one particularly desirable feature: its rare black dial with contrasting golden printing. Set within the classic 36 mm 18k yellow gold case, the deep black dial creates a striking contrast with the fluted bezel, applied gold markers, and hands. The original and evenly aged lume adds authentic vintage character, while the Italian day wheel gives this example an additional distinctive detail. Unlike the familiar President-bracelet configuration, this Day-Date is fitted with an original brown Rolex leather strap and Rolex buckle, giving the watch a more restrained and elegant appearance. Inside beats the automatic Rolex Cal. 1556, one of the movements most closely associated with the vintage Day-Date. Importantly, the watch was professionally serviced by Rolex in March 2025 and remains covered by Rolex service warranty until March 2027, documented by the accompanying Rolex service card.
