Wounded Bird, Print

Eileen Mayo’s Wounded Bird is a striking reproduction print of a 1965 linocut that captures the delicate beauty and vulnerability of a bird through the bold, graphic qualities of linoleum-block printing. Mayo was a British-born artist who became an important figure in New Zealand art. Her work often reflected her fascination with the natural world, particularly birds, plants and insects. Wounded Bird demonstrates her distinctive ability to combine detailed observation with the expressive qualities of printmaking. The original work is held in the collection of Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. It was purchased in 1966 from the Wellington City Council Picture Purchase Fund.
