Picasso Bouquet Of Peace Enamel On Copper Max Carp
A beautiful midcentury enamel on copper of Picasso's 1958 'Bouquet of Peace" (Le Bouquet de l'amitié, 1958) by Max Carp. The design represents two distinct hands coming together to grasp a vibrant, multi-colored bouquet of stylized flowers. Picasso originally created this for a peace demonstration in Stockholm. Karp adapted the iconic image into his signature enamel-on-copper medium. Karp (1916-1999) is widely recognized as the chief innovator of modern enameling. Self-taught and driven, over the years he perfected a unique process which allowed for his creation of museum-quality, kiln-fired two-dimensional painting. Because Karp was a studio artist who created these pieces using a hand-crafted kiln-fired process, they were not numbered mass-manufactured prints. Each enamel-on-copper panel was fired individually in a kiln. Because powdered glass melts slightly differently with every firing, no two of his pieces are exactly identical. His Bouquet of Peace enamels are considered rare and were created in relatively small numbers in the 1960's and 70's. Kiln-fired glass enamel-on-copper panel. Max Carp. (1916-1999) Housed in its original mid-century frame. Frame measures 11" x 13.5." Enamel measures 8" x 10."
