New England Woven Shopping Basket

To understand our baskets is to know our story. Our baskets draw upon the aesthetics, beliefs, lifestyle, and context of a mother and daughter based in New England. It is a history of shared connection to the act of weaving as a practice and the preservation of it through the transference of knowledge. The New England Woven Carrier Collection draws inspiration from a basket capsule woven by Peggy and a collective of local weavers in Maine when Erin was a child. The capsule was the catalyst for Peggy's craft store and sold at the L.L. Bean retail location in Freeport, Maine in the mid-to-late nineties. We honor the baskets and the women who wove them, some of whom are weaving with us again, and some who have passed, through the distinctly New England chain detail and color palette of these carriers.
