GearAid Mask Prep Kit: Sea Buff + Sea Gold Anti-Fog
GearAid Mask Prep Kit: Sea Buff + Sea Gold Anti-Fog A fogged mask ends more first dives early than any equipment failure. This kit fixes the problem in two steps: GearAid Sea Buff cleans the lens, then GearAid Sea Gold stops it fogging on the dive. Bought together, they cost less than buying the two bottles separately. We sell this pairing to almost everyone who buys a new mask from us. New lenses leave the factory with a thin film on the glass, and no amount of anti-fog will hold until that film is gone. Clean it off once with Sea Buff and the mask behaves. After that, a drop of Sea Gold before each dive keeps your view clear. What's in the kit GearAid Sea Buff mask lens cleaner, 37ml GearAid Sea Gold anti-fog gel, 37ml Not included: the mask. Browse our scuba diving masks if you need one. Why the two belong together Anti-fog only works on a clean lens The most common complaint we hear about anti-fog is that it "doesn't work". Usually the lens was never properly cleaned, so the gel is sitting on top of factory film or old residue. Sea Buff takes that layer off, which gives Sea Gold a clean surface to work on. One clean, then a quick routine every dive Sea Buff is the deep clean you do when a mask is new or when fogging comes back. Sea Gold is the everyday step on the boat or at the poolside. Having both in your kit bag means you are not hunting for toothpaste or relying on spit when the mask starts misting at 10 metres. Small enough to live in a save-a-dive kit Both bottles are 37ml, so they fit in a mask box or a spares pouch and go through hand luggage without a second thought. Who this kit is for Anyone who has just bought a new mask Divers whose mask has started fogging again after a season of use Students starting a course who want to stop clearing a misted mask every few minutes Snorkellers and freedivers who want a clear view without spitting in the mask Who it may not be for: if your mask is already clean and you only need a top-up of anti-fog, Sea Gold on its own is the better buy. How to use it Do the Sea Buff step once on a new mask, then again whenever fogging returns. Sea Gold goes on before every dive. With the lens dry, rub a small amount of Sea Buff over the inside of the glass with your fingertip, working into the corners. Rinse thoroughly in fresh water. If the lens still fogs on your next dive, repeat the clean. Before each dive, spread a drop of Sea Gold thinly over the inside of the lens. Give it a light rinse, then put the mask on and keep it on your face rather than your forehead between descents. If your mask has a mirrored, tinted or coated lens, check the maker's care advice before using any cleaner on it. If you're unsure, bring the mask in and our team will take a look. Specifications GearAid Sea Buff Type Mask lens cleaner Size 37ml SKU MC-99126 GearAid Sea Gold Type Anti-fog gel Size 37ml SKU MC-99125 Frequently asked questions Do I really need Sea Buff if I have anti-fog? On a new mask, yes. Anti-fog can't stick to a lens that still has the factory film on it, and that is why a brand new mask often fogs worst of all. On a mask you have already cleaned properly, you can get by with Sea Gold alone until fogging comes back. Can't I just use toothpaste? Plenty of divers do, with mixed results. Toothpaste is not made for the job, it varies from tube to tube, and it is hard to rinse out of the corners. Sea Buff is made for mask lenses, so you get the same result every time. Can I use the kit on a snorkelling mask? Yes. A snorkelling mask fogs for the same reasons as a dive mask, and the same two steps fix it. How long will the bottles last? Sea Buff is only used occasionally, so it lasts a long time. Sea Gold is used every dive, but you only need a small amount each time, so the bottle goes a long way. Buying the mask prep kit This is the first thing we put in a diver's bag alongside a new mask. It costs less than the two bottles bought separately and saves you a fogged first dive. Adding it to a larger kit order? Spend over £100 and you can try your kit in the water at one of our five pool sites for free, with instructors present, which is a good place to find out how well your mask stays clear.
