GRAFLOK UNIVERSAL 4x5 PRO KIT

Part of the new "ObscuraFlex Pro" ecosystem. Everything you need to get your Graflok Slide-Lock compatible 4x5 Camera up and running as a vintage-style digital camera. Use this adapter to harness the power of your smartphone or digital camera to capture digital stills and video with the look and feel of 4x5 photography with most Graflok compatible 4x5 cameras from the 1950s onwards. This adapter features the new 70mm "ObscuraFlex Pro" bayonet mounting system intended for to be forwards compatible with development of mounts for a wider variety of digital cameras, not just smartphones. Please note that this Graflok Universal version of the adapter has many advantages when shooting digitally, but was not primarily designed as a viewfinder for use when shooting film the way the original camera-specific adapters were, listed elsewhere... Camera-Specific Version: Attaches to your existing spring-mounted ground-glass/film-back like any other viewfinder attachment, replacing only the pop-up shade/hood. To shoot film you simply slide in a film-holder under the ground-glass as you normally would. The mounting system is only as secure as your camera's film holder mechanism, and is those more prone to light leaks and instability. ** Heavier digital cameras are not recommended with this style of adapter. THIS Graflok Version: Replaces the entire ground-glass/film-back assembly of your camera and locks securely into place with the Graflok style Slide-Locks. This does not allow for the easy insertion of film-holders the way most native spring-loaded film-backs do. To shoot film the adapter must be removed and a film back installed. This approach makes the attachment more secure, eliminates light leaks, and reduces the overall weight of the system, but is most useful as a digital system. This generic version of the ObscuraFlex adapter is designed to fit any 4x5 camera that's equipped with standard Graflok style "slide-lock" mounting mechanism as patented by Graflex in 1949. I don't have the resources to confirm the compatibility of every 4x5 camera that claims to be "Graflok" or "Graflock" compatible, but many manufacturers introduced compatible slide-lock mechanisms. Some compatible models I am aware of include: Horseman 45FA, Toyo 45A/AX, Wista 45N, Intrepid 4x5, Linhof Technica IV & V, Graflex Speed Graphic, Super Speed, Crown Graphic, etc. Check your camera carefully before ordering and compare with the photos and these measurements: Flange Dimensions: 120mm (4.73in) x 156mm (6.14in) Flange Thickness: ~6mm (0.24in) Any camera that is proven compatible with Graflok "Slide-Lock" style accessories such as the Polaroid 545 Land FIlm Holder Back, LomoGraflok Instax Back, FotoDiox Stitcher Backs, Graflok 120 roll backs, etc should be able to accept this adapter. LONG: for digital cameras with close focus limitations to work with smaller formats (such as the Mamiya 6x9 and Graflok 2x3) AND on 4x5 cameras the digital camera will capture the full image area, with the edge of the adapter visible on all sides so nothing is copped. Some spill may be visible outside the image area creating an organic border which I personally enjoy. SHORT: for a more compact/practical appearance when mounted, and to more completely fill the digital frame. Some cropping of the image will occur. For example, a 4x5 image area will appear closer to 5x7 aspect ratio, with a little cropped off the top and bottom. This utilizes more digital resolution than cropping the image later, and allows cameras with in-camera crop features to produce border-free images directly from the camera without editing. Note: SHORT mounts are NOT COMPATIBLE with Graflok 2x3 and Mamiya 6x9 adapter bodies due to the shorter focusing distance.
