Atlantic Slopes Hornfels 2018

The geological name for baked Malmesbury shale — the beautiful rock that is scattered all around the Hillcrest vineyards and gives a distinct flavour to our wines. This meticulously crafted blend combines equal parts of Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon (22.5% each), with a touch of Petit Verdot (10%). This wine reveals inviting aromas of blackcurrant, plum, cherry, tobacco and subtle oak. On the palate, it offers a layered and complex experience, where ripe fruit meets spicy undertones, supported by elegant tannins and a long, satisfying finish. Wine of Origin Durbanville, Cape Town Maturation Matured in 50% new and 50% 2nd fill French oak barrels. After the first 9 months the best flavoured barrels were selected, blended and re-barreled for a further 9 months. Analysis Alcohol: 14.67% RS: 2.5 g/l TA: 5.7 g/l pH: 3.71
