About “Pop Shop” In the 1980s, as the art world saw soaring prices for artworks, Keith Haring sought to make art accessible to a broader audience and foster communication through creativity. In 1986, he opened Pop Shop, a shop dedicated to selling merchandise featuring his art. His aim was not to create art that only the wealthy could afford, but to offer pieces that anyone—adults and children alike—could easily enjoy and connect with. Haring viewed the original Pop Shop items as an extension of his artistic vision—infused with the messages and concepts that defined his work.
