14C28N STEEL Introduction 14C28N is a high-performance stainless steel produced by Alleima in Sweden. Originally developed specifically for knife blades, it is known for its exceptional balance of toughness, corrosion resistance, ease of sharpening, and fine edge stability. Often viewed as an evolution of 12C27 and closely related to AEB-L in performance and behavior, 14C28N has become a favorite among both custom makers and production knife manufacturers. For makers familiar with AEB-L, 14C28N offers a very similar fine-grained structure and excellent edge performance while providing increased corrosion resistance through the addition of nitrogen. It can also be forge welded using parameters similar to those commonly used for AEB-L, making it an attractive option for makers interested in stainless Damascus and laminated blade constructions. This combination makes it an excellent choice for everyday carry, kitchen, hunting, and outdoor knives.
