Home-prepared food without suitable mineral supplementation does not contain all the vitamins and minerals dogs need, and over time this can lead to nutrient imbalances. For further acidification of urine pH, additional DL-methionine is suitable (see feeding guidelines). DL-methionine acidifies the urine and helps shift urine pH into the target range of 6.2 to 6.5, a range that is generally considered unfavourable for struvite formation. The additional DL-methionine can be stopped when your vet advises it.
